Celebrity Edge design features revealed

Celebrity Cruises today unveiled new images of its eagerly anticipated 2,918-guest vessel Celebrity Edge, due in fall 2018. The ship is being designed using 3-D technology, enabling architects and cruise line executives to walk through a virtual Edge wearing 3-D glasses.

The most revolutionary Celebrity Edge design feature is the ship-climbing Magic Carpet platform. This tennis court-sized multi-purpose space will make disembarkation a breeze, serve as a specialty dining venue, and can also serve as a poolside bar.

The new Edge Staterooms with Infinite Verandas have been designed to erase the line between indoors and outdoors, creating a sense of connection to the ocean. Floor-to-ceiling windows rise at the push of a button, providing guests with unimpeded ocean views from their living rooms. By eliminating the traditional balcony set-up, the designers have increased stateroom floor plan size by 23%.

Edge suites also boast a complete re-design. Six duplex villas will offer private plunge pools and direct access to the solarium sundeck. The villas offer guests luxury amenities such as butler service, eucalyptus-treated cashmere mattresses from Italy, Bulgari bath products, Celebrity President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo notes that guests in the penthouse suite will enjoy a better view than the captain. “It’s set right over the bridge,” she said.

Our new class of ship will allow guests to experience their journeys with the uniqueness and sophistication that marks the rest of their lives.”

The new ship is the first of five projected Edge class vessels. To create Celebrity’s first new ship class in 10 years, the cruise line has focused on architecture and design. The architectural dream team assembled to push the boundaries on luxury travel at sea includes internationally renowned interior designer Kelly Hoppen MBE of Kelly Hoppen Interiors and architect Tom Wright of WKK. American designer Nate Berkus serves as Celebrity Edge‘s design ambassador. The innovative design of the new vessels has edged Celebrity’s price for each ship close to $1 billion.

Celebrity Edge’s maiden voyage will set sail from Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 16, 2018, for a week-long Caribbean circuit. Bookings are officially open for the ship’s debut season, with limited availability.

Our Take: Celebrity continues to have that ‘queer eye’. The new Edge design features look amazing! We can already picture same-sex weddings taking place on the Magic Platform, and the villas look like the perfect setting for romantic gay honeymoons.
