Excellent Seward Shore Excursion: Sea Kayak

Since our Celebrity Millennium cruise didn’t sail until 8:00 p.m. we had the afternoon available for a local shore excursion. We chose to go sea kayaking with a company called Sunny Cove Kayaking, and the afternoon paddling in Resurrection Bay was excellent.

Neither of us is an experienced kayaker—but the guides made us feel very comfortable and secure, and sure that we could do it. We rowed in a tandem kayak, with Denni sitting in back so I could bring you some better photos.

Every tour is different, depending on sea conditions, tides, weather, and such. Our tour took us down the coast, and due to high tide we were able to actually paddle into a beautiful freshwater creek which was full of spawning salmon—our boat was often surrounded by the fish. AMAZING.

We also enjoyed watching Bald Eagles overhead, and were awed as they dive-bombed for fish.

The tour paddled out into the middle of the bay for amazing views of the surrounding mountains and nearby Godwin Glacier.

Gay-friendly factor: very high. Our guide Matt Barnes was clued-in enough to ask if we were taking a gay-cruise, and was very friendly and congratulated us when we said we were on our honeymoon.
